Job Description
Line Cooks at The Stray are responsible for efficiently executing all kitchen operations within The Stray’s cozy cafe environment to produce high-quality food in a timely, safe, and consistent manner. They are chefs with many hats; from dicing vegetables, to assembling, to plating aesthetics, to delivering both food and drinks in a way that inspires the customer. The role includes consistent communication with teammates and ensuring orders are made and delivered efficiently, while also maintaining a clean and well-stocked workspace. To succeed in this role, applicants must be committed to providing exceptional customer service, foster a culture of collaboration & team accountability and thrive in fast-paced, organized, more “behind-the-scenes” role.
Eligibility and Preferred Skills:

Experience as a line cook, sandwich maker, or prep cook is a plus

Solid understanding of kitchen safety & food handling best practices
-
Good knife skills

Willingness to learn and ability to adapt to change

Positive attitude and genuine passion for good food and great hospitality

Able to work both independently & as a team collaboratively with other staff

Attention to detail and proactive in carrying out tasks with good time management

Responsibilities:
-
Prepare sandwiches, flatbreads, salads, soups, and other menu items in a sanitary and timely manner
-
Maintain prep levels for daily service including slicing meats, prepping vegetables, sauces and spreads
-
Closely follow The Stray’s recipes and ServSafe guidelines
-
Ensure all food meets presentation guidelines
-
Promote a safe kitchen environment
-
Understand kitchen responsibilities and organize shift time to meet expectations
-
Communicate with other staff to most efficiently complete tasks
-
Keep kitchen & workstations stocked, clean, and organized per The Stray’s standards
-
Assist in maintaining inventory including FIFO rotation, labeling, and receiving deliveries
-
Adhere to standard operating procedures and fill out logs and complete checklists accurately
-
Crosstrain for other positions as needed to promote team collaboration
-
Provide input for continuous improvement and innovation
-
Perform opening, closing, and other assigned tasks
Physical Demands:
-
Long periods of standing and moving around the kitchen
-
Ability to safely operate hot machinery, blades, and other potentially hazardous kitchen equipment
-
Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
-
Occasional loud noise exposure (less than 110db)
Schedule:
-
Part time & full time, mornings & evenings, Monday-Saturday
